Marygrove Workshop Targets Standards-Based Technology Planning
September 30, 2004

Marygrove WorkshopAs part of their 2004 National Education Conference held October 1 -3, Marygrove College offered a series of pre-conference workshops on September 30th.  One of these workshops, “Teaching and Learning with Technology”, was supported by a COATT mini-grant.

The half-day workshop was designed to inform pre-service and in-service teachers about the 7th Standard and COATT, and to introduce them to several models for the planning and use of technology-based tools.  As part of their experience, the 25 participants developed instructional strategies to support standards-based learning, including how to create powerful learning experiences for students by effectively integrating the use of the Internet into the classroom.  Participants enjoyed visiting the various educational websites that were explored as part of the hands-on session, such as the Webquest Portal at San Diego State University.

A highlight of the conference, subtitled "Revitalizing the Purpose and Spirit of Education: the Imprint of Brown v. Board of Education", was the Saturday morning key note address by David Thornburg, Ph.D.  He made a strong appeal for greater use of technology in the classroom and modeled its use by incorporating streaming video into his presentation.
