"Teaching
with Technology" Workshops at Kalamazoo College Kalamazoo College hosted a series of workshops for students, faculty, and practicing teachers. The workshops brought University of Michigan faculty member Rodney Williams to model teaching with technology in the economics classroom. The sessions demonstrated how curriculum in economics can be created in the context of the lesson study model of professional development. An integral part of the workshops was discussion of differences between classes using handheld technologies to learn content and classes that did not use these technologies. Participants also received hands-on training in the use of Texas Instruments handheld technologies including graphing calculators. With partial funding from a COATT mini-grant, a series of sessions were held throughout the day for specific audiences: students in the teacher education program at Kalamazoo College, students who are exploring education as a profession, faculty members, and practicing teachers from the greater Kalamazoo area. This final session was designed to build local capacity to place student teachers with economics backgrounds with teachers who are building their capacity to use technology.
