Grand
Valley Holds Faculty Workshop A full-day workshop, Electronic Portfolios and COATT, was held for Grand Valley State University education technology faculty members on February 10th. Supported by a mini-grant from COATT, the workshop was designed to teach GVSU instructors about e-portfolios and their use in education for pre-service and in-service teachers and students. The workshop also covered the use of portfolios in COATT certification and GVSU’s new requirement for their Computers in Education course, which involves having an electronic portfolio from each student as part of the course expectations. In addressing how these technology portfolios will document the achievement of all the outcomes expected of GVSU student teachers, faculty developed a set of common assignments, (such as Webquests, use of Power Point, etc.) and a rubric to be used by all faculty to evaluate the portfolios. MCOATT Standards and Michigan’s Seventh Standard were addressed as part of this process. This e-portfolio workshop provided a common understanding of the e-portfolio process, and prepared GVSU faculty members to teach their students, numbering over 500, how to develop their standards-based electronic portfolios.
