Calvin Hosts Second Annual Workshop Series for Supervising Teachers
May 31- June 2, 2005

Discussion at COATT CampOver a three-day period, practicing teachers attended a series of workshops at Calvin College designed to instruct on the creation of an electronic environment to support learning. The workshops were supported by a mini-grant from COATT.

The workshops were designed to introduce and prepare supervising teachers to use the Blackboard electronic environment to supplement their student supervision. Topics included electronic portfolios, rubrics, assignment, grade books, and the electronic submission and feedback of student learning activities.

As a part of the workshop experience, participants began the development of their own electronic learning environment within Blackboard and committed to its use in the fall of 2005.

Specific workshop topics included:

  • Introduction to the use of Blackboard
  • Communication tools
  • Online assessment
  • Blackboard grade book
  • Implementation of tools in the student teaching curriculum

Participants were given the opportunity to meet two additional times to support each other in the development and implementation of their electronic environment.
