The Michigan Certificate for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching with Technology (MCOATT) is awarded to recognize individuals who have shown their accomplishments in teaching a unit of study that demonstrates advanced uses of technology to enhance student learning. Until this year, the MCOATT was awarded only to individual pre-service and in-service teachers. COATT recognizes that there are often several individuals in addition to the classroom teacher who help design, implement, assess and support technology-enhanced classroom activities. In January 2004, the COATT Board of Directors and the COATT membership approved the MCOATT team award. The team award (COATT-T) will be given to teams consisting of media specialists, technology coordinators, other support personnel and at least one pre-service or practicing teacher, who create an e-portfolio documenting integration of technology into the classroom. Teams can apply for the award by submitting an application form to COATT. The award is based on achieving the high levels of performance on a set of educational technology standards for teachers based on the National Standards for Educational Technology for Teachers (NETS-T) developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the Michigan Seventh Standard, a version of the ISTE standard adopted by the state Board of Education for teacher certification. The standards are the foundation for the COATT performance rubric against which portfolios are judged. MCOATT Steps:
