Frequently Asked
Questions

What is it?
Michigan recently created a new endorsement in educational technology
for teachers. Unlike most teaching majors and minors, this one is
earned at the graduate level and is designed for those who already
have a teaching certificate.
The basic requirements are to enroll at a program that has been
approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) to offer the
endorsement, complete a minimum of 18 credits of graduate course
work related to teaching and learning with technology, and then the
state will officially add the new endorsement in educational technology
to your teaching credentials.
Who should get it?
The endorsement is designed for teachers who are already certified
but want to improve their skills in using technology for teaching
and student learning in the classes they are already certified to
teach. While not designed to prepare technology coordinators or computer
literacy teachers, this program can also benefit any educator interested
in technology and curriculum.
What can I teach with it?
Beyond using technology in the classes you already teach, once you
have earned the educational technology endorsement, you will be well
qualified to teach introductory computer-related classes for which
no specific endorsement is required, such as Basic Computers, Computer
Literacy, Keyboarding, Word Processing, Computer Applications (such
as multi-media), Web Design, and Introduction to the Internet.
