COATT Receives MACUL President's Award
At the MACUL Annual Conference awards reception in Grand Rapids, COATT received the President's award. This distinguished award is given by MACUL in recognition of an individual or organization's contribution for the outstanding use of technology in the classroom to enhance student learning.

Two More Workshops Left
Through the year of 2004, COATT held e-Portfolio and technology Workshops at member institutions. The workshops are offered to undergraduate students in education at any Michigan university or college. The workshops are funded by the U.S. Department of Education, PT3 grant, so participation is free and lunch is provided. The last workshops will be held at Aquinas College on April 24, and at Oakland University on May 15.

Three Dimensional Concept Mapping
If your missed the MACUL Conference you also may not be aware of SMART Ideas, a concept mapping software by Soft Technologies. The unique feature of this concept mapping application is that relationships can be completed in dimensions. Instead of running your concept map three screens to the left and down, SMART Ideas allows links to additional screens to be placed within the first level map. Definitely a great application for teachers involved in curriculum mapping. It is worth a free demo download to take a look at the concept.

Microscope Imaging Station
Changing technology and high replacement costs are pushing biology instructors to pick virtual microscopes over the real thing. The Exploratorium website is currently developing a Microscope Imaging Station that gives visitors to the site a unique opportunity to control research-grade microscopes and view images of biological processes. This facility uses the highest-quality optics and current microscopy techniques, including biological staining and time-lapse recording. At the present the Station provides access to incredible images of the zebra fish, frog and sea urchin embryonic development. UNC- Chapel Hill is one of the universities facing this decision.

New Technology Journal
The Technology Source met its untimely demise on MVU with the November/December 2003 issue. In the absence of the transferring of the journal to a Michigan Institution, James Morrison, past editor, is to begin a new online peer-reviewed journal, Innovate, which will focus on the creative use of information tools to enhance active learning methods at at all levels--K-12, colleges, universities, and corporate universities. The first issue of Innovate will be published July 1, 2004. If you would like to submit a manuscript for publication consideration, please contact Morrison at morrison@unc.edu.

Tapped In 2
After more than five years of development by the National Science Foundation Tapped IN 2 has been released to the educational community. Tapped In is designed as an online workspace for educators. Members of Tapped In can set up a virtual office where a bulletin board exists, asynchronous threaded discussions can be held, private messaging is allowed, and file space is available.(There is no charge to teachers and educators.)
